An organisation empowering people to create, inspire and build new opportunities for each other. OUR GOAL "To empower local people, giving them the tools to work together and break down barriers." OUR GOAL To remove barriers and empower individuals and families to access opportunities, support, and thrive. About Excel Beyond Barriers 'Excel Beyond Barriers' is a youth first organisation that provides young people with the tools they need to get ahead and grow in life. On the flip side, we also help enterprise, government and education to engage, recruit and support youths in our community. We wholeheartedly believe in the potential of all young people and care deeply about young people and their futures, especially those from deprived areas of our inner city of London and nationwide. We are a multicultural-led organisation predominantly from the BAME community. Our work is directed at creating opportunities for young people to tackle inequality, achieve their personal potential and drive social change. Our Mission Our mission has always been to empower local people, giving them the tools to work together to resolve issues of common concern and break down any barriers they are faced with. Our ultimate goal is to help them to make stronger communities. We Provide Support Under Four Strategic Themes 1 Safe Spaces 2 Health and Well-being 3 Strong, Safe, and Inclusive Communities 4 Progression, Skills, Mentoring, Career Advice and Employability Our Priority Focus Groups We focus primarily on how increased participation in sport, physical activity, training, mentoring, internship, and career/employment can enhance the lives of people in Southwark Borough and nationwide. 1 Young people aged 11–30 years 2 Older adults 3 People with a long-term condition or disability 4 People living in surrounding deprived areas with high rates of inactivity Our work is not restricted to these four groups. Understanding intersectionality is essential to combatting the interwoven inequalities seen within communities. We work to support other relevant networks to improve opportunities, attract funding and investment for sport, facilities, and improve coordination across the sector. Our Core Values Through working with young people and partners from projects across the UK, we have developed these core values which underpin everything we do. Contact Us Youth-Led Young people are at the heart of what we do. We support their potential through mentoring, career guidance, training, internships, and opportunities for growth. We're currently looking for great people to help us continue to grow and make a real difference, and in return for a minimum commitment of 8 hours a month. Ketra Community Hall, Telfer House, London, SE21 8QW Volunteer With Us Make a difference, learn new skills, and meet lots of new people along the way. Excel Beyond Barriers can only work thanks to the dedication and skills of our wonderful volunteers. We're currently looking for great people to help us continue to grow and make a real difference, and in return for a minimum commitment of 8 hours a month, we provide our regular volunteers with online training in safeguarding, mentoring and leadership skills, as well as the chance to virtually meet lots of new local volunteers. If you have specialist skills you'd like to offer to us (in particular expertise in fundraising, social media, PR, and marketing), please contact us by completing our volunteer registration form; we really need your support. Our Current Volunteer Roles Food Bank Stock Gatherer / Sorter / Packing Food and Lunch Parcels Over the last 18 months our wonderful volunteers have been making emergency food parcels and responding to online referrals and working with local organisations who are delivering emergency services to vulnerable people. Running the food bank is no mean feat and we couldn't keep it open without the wonderful support from local people, volunteers and funders. As we move into a post pandemic we still continue to support people in crisis with our healthy meal boxes and support local schools with our lunch packs. Food Quality checking: carry out the task you've been assigned by the coordinator on arrival. Sorting: all food items have a home in our cupboards; everything needs to be neatly stored in the correct place ready to be picked out to go into food and lunch parcels. Fundraising We need help to develop a strategy that promotes our fundraising efforts to a wider audience. Someone who is able to contact businesses who could be potential sponsors/funders. This is a job for a volunteer who's tenacious, connected and comfortable with reaching out to people. We've started a database of businesses to start with and will provide you with a draft email/letter and additional information about the charity you can send out. Charity Instagram, Twitter and Facebook Takeover Over the years the one thing we've seriously faulted on is updating and maintaining our social media accounts. We have the lot, even a YouTube channel! However finding the time to deliver projects and services, take pictures and videos and then create and post it all; has been challenging. We're looking for volunteers who can sign up to takeover our charity social media pages for a day. Mobile Food Bank Facebook and Twitter Takeover We have a Facebook page for Mobile Food Bank. In an ideal world we would love it to become the hub for all the food bank activities. A place where people can ask queries and tell us they're donating or would like to volunteer. We're looking for volunteers who can answer queries and run the page for the day. Volunteer With Us! Fill out the form below and we'll be in touch. - Hygiene | Excel Beyond Barrier
Volunteers and donated hygiene products at the Hygiene Bank by Excel Beyond Barriers, supporting individuals and families facing hygiene poverty through community distribution of essential personal care items. Hygiene Ketra Community Hall, Telfer House, London, SE21 8QW We are here to help. Hygiene. At the EBB’s Hygiene Bank, we believe that feeling clean should not be a luxury or a privilege for anyone in our society, yet there are many who live in poverty and cannot afford to remain clean. The injustice that people may be unable to fully participate in society due to a lack of hygiene supplies drives our passion. We work to inspire social change for this reason. MORE ABOUT THE HYGIENE BANK Those who are not financially stable or who are in a state of crisis frequently have limited options. This forces them to choose between heating their home, paying rent, purchasing food, and maintaining their personal hygiene. Lack of hygiene can be stigmatising, humiliating, and isolating, resulting in social isolation. It can result in a lack of confidence and have a negative impact on physical and mental health, which can have an effect on early childhood development, learning, employability, and social interaction. Products are donated, collected, sorted, and distributed to our network of community partners, which consists of a variety of organisations, charities, and schools that assist those of us who have fallen into poverty. Supporting EBB’s Hygiene Bank is a straightforward way to assist not only a single organisation, but also multiple grassroots initiatives in the United Kingdom addressing a wide range of issues, including poverty, domestic abuse, and disability. We collect personal care and cleaning products that are new, unused, and within their expiration dates, including deodorant, shower gel, shampoo, makeup, diapers, toilet paper, laundry detergent, and surface cleaner. If you need and utilise something, it is likely that someone else does as well.
